Nania FC wins Ghana's FA Cup

First division club, Nania FC, made history here on Sunday when they beat defending champions Asante Kotoko in extra time 1-0 at the Accra sports stadium to win this year's FA cup.

Evans Omani scored the lone goal in the 107th minute when he back-heeled past Kotoko's goal-keeper, Soulama Abdoulaye.

Nania FC, owned and coached by former Ghana and Marseille international, Abedi Ayew Pele, thus become the first team from the lower tier of the country's league to have won the cup since its inception.

The team will represent Ghana in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confederation cup next season.

Apart from lifting the coveted trophy, the winners picked a cash prize of 20,000 cedis or 13,000 US dollars while the losing finalists received 10,000 cedis or 6,600 US dollars.

A total of 112 sides had been involved in this year's Cup competition which began last December.

The final match represented the 111th game in the Cup competition, with former England and Liverpool legend, John Barnes, watching as guest of honor at the finals.
